Valerie J.M. Watzlaf, Ph.D., RHIA, FAHIMA is an Associate Professor within the Department of Health Information Management in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh. She also holds a secondary appointment in the Graduate School of Public Health. She has been chair of the AHIMA Coding, Policy, and Strategy Committee, the Research Committee, and the Council on Accreditation. Watzlaf is currently serving as board member of the Foundation of Research and Education (FORE) of AHIMA. She is also on the Editorial Advisory Board for the Journal of AHIMA (JAHIMA) and for Perspectives in Health Information Management (PHIM). Dr. Watzlaf has published extensively in the field of health information management and is the recipient of numerous awards and professional accolades including AHIMA’s Research Award.
