What To Do If You Suspect Employee Misconduct with
Technology
Maintaining a productive workplace is the vested interest of every employer. An
essential element in protecting that interest is preventing employee misconduct
with information technology systems. Improper or excessive internet usage,
personal use of equipment, unauthorized loading of software (illegal or
unauthorized), and many other complex issues create the need for employers to
often investigate alleged misconduct. If a problem is found, confrontation and
discipline of wrongdoers is essential. In order to prevent lawsuits after the
fact, investigations must be handled in a consistent, professional manner. This
presentation will help professionals and employers learn the fundamentals of an
IT misconduct investigation, suggestions for how to confront and discipline
wrongdoers, and elements of best practices for prevention of employee misconduct
related to information technology resources.
