The Mission of CPHIMA

The Central Pennsylvania Health Information Management Association (CPHIMA) is committed to the quality of health information for the benefit of patients, providers, and other users of clinical data.

As a regional association of the Pennsylvania Health Information Management Association (PHIMA), our professional organization strives to:

  • Be recognized as central Pennsylvania's resource body on health information management.

  • Assure members have the means and methods to maintain continuing education requirements of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

  • Support health information management & technology programs within the central Pennsylvania region .

  • Serve as a resource of central Pennsylvania members in coordination and sponsoring activities of PHIMA and AHIMA.

  • Create an environment for fostering networking within the central Pennsylvania region.

The Vision of CPHIMA

As the profession responsible for management of health information, CPHIMA strives to serve its members and those who create and utilize health information by:

  • Achieving and maintaining the highest levels of professional competence in those who manage health information and its related systems.

  • Being recognized as central Pennsylvania's authoritative body on health information.

  • Being an advocate for the profession on governmental, academic, social, and business issues that affect the management of health information systems.

  • Advocating the professional standing of central Pennsylvania's regional academic programs.

  • Contributing to quality and efficiency in health information management.

  • Assuring the membership is able to meet the continuing changes in the roles of the profession.

The Values of CPHIMA

Inherent in our vision for the CPHIMA are values, which will shape the actions we take to realize our Mission. Values are the core assumptions that are the foundation of our Mission.

  • We believe that health information systems must continue to accommodate the needs of the diverse community we serve.

  • We recognize the responsibility to utilize all resources efficiently and effectively.

  • We recognize our fundamental responsibility for working in partnership with others members of Pennsylvania's health system to enhance the quality of services we provide.

  • We value the balance of patients' privacy rights and confidentiality of health information against the need for access to health information.

  • We recognize the need for continuing education of our current and future membership.
