2007 PHIMA Distinguished Member
Nina G. Zimmer, RHIA

This year’s recipient of the PHIMA Distinguished Member Award is
Nina G. Zimmer, RHIA. This award is given to honor outstanding
members of PHIMA for their loyal service to the Association of
PHIMA and their contributions to the profession.
Nina has provided nearly 25 years of volunteer service to the
HIM profession while working at the Hospital of the University
of Pennsylvania and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where
she is the Associate Director of Health Information Management.
She has held many elected positions at the local level & state
level, including both President of SePHIMA and President of
PHIMA. Currently she is still serving PHIMA as a member of the
Advocacy Committee. Nationally, she was an AHIMA delegate &
member of their Hospitality Coordinating Committee. All
combined she has volunteered for nearly 30 HIM positions or
committees.
Nina has been a speaker for
PHIMA in recent years on the topic of Electronic Health Records
and for AHIMA on Data Quality and as part of the Student
Academy. She has made multiple contributions to the KEYSTONER
and GRASSROOTS newsletters.
In addition to her direct
HIM contributions, Nina continues to serve the HIM profession
through her direct interactions with the Pennsylvania Healthcare
Cost Containment Council (PHC4). Most recently she was a member
of their Nosocomial Infection Advisory Council and has received
recognition from the PHC4 as an expert in Atlas abstracting and
related activities. She has also been a guest lecturer & mentor
for numerous HIM students at Temple University as well as St.
Scholastica, Burlington County and Gwynedd Mercy Colleges. Nina
was also a mentor and advisor to the School District of
Pennsylvania.
Personally she has been
noted to be creative, enthusiastic, efficient, effective, never
complacent and a wonderful mentor and brings a spirit of
camaraderie to the Board. Based on her service, leadership and
dedication to PHIMA and the HIM profession, PHIMA is proud to
honor this exceptional lady as our 2007 Distinguished Member.
