PHIMA President's Address
Submitted by Paula Lawlor
President, PHIMA

Happy New Year- I trust that the
Holidays were a time of excitement, happiness and family for
all of you. We have been very busy these last few months
since the National Convention. We have been involved with so
many things at the board level, so I encourage you to check
out all that is going on in the regions and on the CoP. If
anyone needs assistance on using the CoP please
contact our Executive
Director and she will forward you written instructions.
Since the last time I wrote, your Board
has been actively pursuing ancillary, collegiate
relationships. We have been successful in participating on
the PA eHI. (The Pennsylvania E-Health Initiative). We have
several members participating in this association and are
actively involved. We have also reached out to our fellow
Medical Transcription World. The Pennsylvania Association
for Healthcare Documentation Integrity has become a valued
and active associate of PHIMA. Their members are working
with our Board to further develop our relationship. We are
also working on the other organizations that touch PHIMA.
Looking ahead to our voting of our upcoming Board will be an
exciting time. Our Nominating committee did a great job
preparing a first class ballot. The individuals who are on
the ballot have all been dedicated members of PHIMA and
would be a great addition to the Board.
SO now the Fun part---- We are very
busy preparing for you, a wonderful, fun filled exciting
state meeting in MAY! We have some interesting speakers and
activities in store for you all. Our presenters are highly
regarded experts in their field and have been very
successful in their presentations in the past. We have some
personal touches this year in the areas of “Reaching for the
STARS”. Our vendor area will be a themed environment, and we
will have some “starry” type activities for you all to
participate in. This year’s annual meeting is a celebration
of life, career, family and you! I am so excited to be
preparing this wonderful meeting and I hope that all of you
will come and participate in an out of the NORM event!!
Those of you that know me will not be surprised, but will
say- I figured she would do something like this. SO get
ready, ask for the time off at work and I look forward to
seeing you there. One last mention – You all know that we
have student scholarships and reimbursement for the
RHIA/RHIT exam. This was effective as of 1/1/08. PHIMA is
offering full reimbursement for any premiere PHIMA eligible

associated with this. And one more plug for the ANNUAL
