Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Director-Health Information Management ( HIM), leads the WellSpan corporate release of information (ROI) operation in accordance with WellSpan policies and procedures, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and other applicable federal and state regulations. Manages the release of information staff and serves as the liaison with the third-party ROI vendor. Leads workforce awareness and training initiatives regarding the release of protected health information (PHI) and advises management.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains current knowledge and serves as the HIM expert in the interpretation of state and federal laws related to release of information.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of policies and procedures related to the uses and disclosures of PHI and serves as a resource to ensure that they are communicated clearly, interpreted correctly, and followed consistently.
  • Develops processes and resources to improve efficiency and effectiveness of individual employees and ROI team, including optimal use of third party software work queues and reports.
  • Coordinates daily activities, work assignments and projects as appropriate for smooth workflow and timely delivery of PHI requests.
  • Serves as liaison with ROI third party vendor and ensures consistent coordination of release of information and billing processes.
  • Serves as on-site system administrator for third party ROI software.
  • Coordinates audit reviews with external payers and Recovery Audit Contractors (RAC) reviews with Corporate Compliance Department.
  • Interacts with other internal departments to ensure that ROI requests are sent to corporate ROI and are being processed centrally.
  • Determines and addresses needs of staff and management. Responds promptly to inquiries.

Required Qualifications:

Other combinations of formal education, training and experience may be considered.

Minimum Experience:
3 years of supervisory/management experience in an HIM environment

Minimum Education:
Bachelors Degree

Required Certification:
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT); or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)

Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

3 years of supervisory/management experience in an HIM environment

Bachelors Degree
